A planning application has been lodged with Laois County Council to expand Simpsons Shop on Main Street Stradbally.

Permission is being sought to erect a flat roof two storey extension to the rear of the shop to accommodate bakery storage, a canteen, lockers, a stairwell and lift shaft.

The planning application also seeks to alter the site boundaries to include an existing shed and to change the use of the shed to retail.

They are seeking permission for a change of use to retail with ancillary use as an off licence.

The plans, lodged by Simpsons Paper Shop Ltd, seek a change of use from storage to office and toilets for a portion of the existing first floor of the shop.

They also want to change the existing first floor access door to a window on the front façade and all associated and necessary site works.

Submissions on the proposed development can be made to the local authority up to April 24, 2024 with a decision due by planners by May 15, 2024.
