The petition is calling for a pedestrian crossing for Cullohill .
A resident of Cullohill has started a petition for a pedestrian crossing in the village to ensure local residents feel safe while walking.
Ashling Aylward has already gathered close to 400 signatures calling on the infrastructure through the online petition.
"Every day, I witness the danger that pedestrians face due to the lack of a proper crossing in our village. This issue is not just personal to me but affects all villagers who value their safety and that of their loved ones," she said.
"Cullohill is a bustling community where people should feel safe while walking around. However, the absence of pedestrian crossings puts us at risk every day. According to Road Safety Authority Ireland, pedestrian fatalities accounted for 30% of road deaths in 2019 (Road Safety Authority Ireland). This statistic highlights the urgency and importance of implementing safety measures such as pedestrian crossings."
The petition is urging Laois County Council to install a crossing in the village.
