Council staff clearing trees
Laois County Council’s Storm Éowyn emergency hotline number has been stood down.
Crews are expecting to work throughout the weekend to try and clear the damage caused by Storm Éowyn.
Fire and Roads crews have been out since the lifting of the red warning from 11am today.
As of 4.45pm, the Council said: “42 of the tree down cases have been dealt with by the Fire Service. 12 tree down cases remain at the time of issuing this update.
Additional tree down cases above those reported by the public are being identified through inspection.
Where possible the council will signpost these cases, however the public should continue to drive with caution as additional cases may occur through weakened trees.”
The Council said work to address storm damage will continue throughout the weekend by Laois County Council crews.
“Due to the significant work achieved to date, the council will be reverting to its standard out of hours response for the remainder of the weekend.
From 5pm this evening we will be standing down our emergency hotline.
We wish to thank the public for their assistance during storm Éowyn and its aftermath,” the council said.
Meanwhile, ESB Networks are continuing to restore power to homes and businesses across Laois. Thousands of customers who were without power have had their service restored. However, a large number of faults remain across the county. Details are available on https://powercheck.esbnetworks.ie/
