Gardaí arrested six drivers for drunk and drug driving in Laois

The majority of the motorists were detected at checkpoints being carried out for the bank holiday weekend

Gardaí have arrested six drivers for drunk and drug driving in Laois at the weekend. 

The motorists were arrested across Laois with many being detected at garda checkpoints which had been set up for the bank holiday weekend.

A woman was arrested in Ballyroan on Saturday night at 11.30pm while a man was arrested in Durrow at 9.20pm at a checkpoint. One motorist was detected on the Portlaoise Road in Mountrath while another driver was arrested at Togher, Portlaoise on Sunday at 1pm. 

Elsewhere in Portlaoise a driver was detected on the Dublin Road today and another driver was arrested on the Mountmellick Road at 12.30am today(Monday). 

An Garda Síochána is conducting an extensive Roads Policing Operation throughout St. Brigid's Bank Holiday Weekend. 

The operation began at 7am on Thursday, January 30 and will continue until 7am on Tuesday, February 4.
