RIP: Laois woman dies following tragic accident
The woman is thought to have fallen into a river
Gardaí are investigating the death of a woman whose remains were recovered from a river in Laois yesterday.
It’s understood the woman, who was from the area, may have fallen into the river. Gardai are believed to be treating the death of the woman, who was aged in her 60s, as a tragic accident.
The Civil Defence assisted in recovering the woman’s remains from the Owenass River in Mountmellick on Wednesday night.
“Gardaí were alerted to the death of a woman in Mountmellick, Co Laois yesterday evening, Wednesday 19th February 2025.
The body of the deceased, a woman in her 60s, was removed to the mortuary at Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner’s office,” gardaí said in a statement.
