A driver has been taken to hospital after a car crashed into a field in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí said the driver was taken to hospital with non serious injuries after the car left the Rathdowney to Johnstown R435 road at Ballybuggy.

“Road now cleared. Driver taken to hospital with non serious injuries and will have a blood sample taken in hospital to test for the presence of intoxicants as is standard procedure,” gardaí stated at 6.50am.

They said gardaí from Abbeyleix and Rathdowney dealt with the incident. A tow truck was deployed to remove the car which had landed on its roof from a field.
