Abbeyleix House and Farm owner joined Taoiseach for Stripe's new Dublin office opening

Abbeyleix House and Farm owner John Collison was joined by the Taoiseach for the official opening of Stripe's new Dublin headquarters today.  

A programmable financial services company, Stripe, has now tripled its office space to 14,500 square metres with the opening of the new Dublin headquarters as the company prepares for its next phase of growth. 

The new dual headquarters at One Wilton Park was officially opened by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, alongside Stripe cofounder John Collison and Chief Revenue Officer Eileen O’Mara.

As part of the celebrations, the Taoiseach joined John Collison for a discussion in front of 150 Stripe customers, tech and business leaders, and policymakers. The pair spoke about how to ensure Ireland remains prosperous and competitive in the coming decades, including building more infrastructure, fuelling Irish startups, and increasing European competitiveness. 

“Stripe is a true Irish success story, powering the growth of millions of businesses at home and abroad. I wish them every success in their new, state-of-the-art Dublin headquarters,” said An Taoiseach Micheál Martin. “We are committed to ensuring Ireland remains competitive on a global stage and an attractive home for businesses like Stripe to thrive in the long term.”

Illustrating the rapid expansion in Ireland’s online economy, Stripe revealed that it now serves 70,000 Irish businesses and solopreneurs—including tech unicorns like Wayflyer and Flipdish, iconic organisations like the GAA and The Irish Times, and large enterprises like Smyths and Irish Life—with 2,000 new Irish users joining every month. Irish businesses have grown their collective payment volume by 100x since the company last moved offices in 2016. 

Despite increasing barriers to international trade, Irish businesses that use Stripe remain staunchly global. Over two-thirds (70%) of Irish users are selling internationally, and they have collectively grown their cross-border payment volume by 37% over the last 12 months.

The new dual headquarters will house expanding teams in engineering, product, operations, and sales, and bolster Stripe’s efforts to help its users adopt frontier technology—including AI and stablecoins—to grow faster. It features large event spaces designed to bring together founders and business leaders based in Ireland and across Europe. 

Beyond its core business, Stripe continues to invest in programmes to accelerate scientific and technological progress in Ireland. These include the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition, the youth accelerator Patch, the Irish Maths Olympiad, and the University of Limerick's Immersive Software Engineering course.

Mr Collison bought Abbey Leix Estate in 2021 and has since engaged in an extensive programme of works to breathe life back into the impressive estate. He has hired a team of specialist workers to carry out repairs and to restore some of the buildings. 

He also bought the derelict Millbrook House on the edge of the estate and work is underway to transform it into an upmarket restaurant and hotel.

In keeping with the tradition of the previous owners, Mr Collison holds annual events such as the Family Day and Christmas Fair for the local community where local producers have an opportunity to sell their goods. A keen pilot, he has also introduced an airshow and display during the open day and the estate has become home to many rescue animals as he supports the work of My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue at his Laois property.
