Laois Gardaí have warned drivers of noisy vehicles to be considerate or risk having their cars seized.

The said they were out in Portlaoise on Friday night  “carrying out vehicle noise decibel tests, because apparently these days basic consideration for other people now needs measuring equipment.”

“While most drivers pass quietly by and go about their business like decent human beings…A small minority choose to:  Rev through housing estates, crackle and pop for attention, wake babies, kids, shift workers and half the street,” Gardaí said.

They warned “inconsiderate” drivers that if their car is making noises over 99 decibels they can be fined, get two penalty points and their vehicle may be seized.

“When a hard working parent finally get a child asleep after hours of effort, stories, bottles and bribes… and you blast past because you want attention? That absolutely matters.

If you need to wake half a housing estate just to feel noticed, the problem isn’t under the bonnet. It’s behind the wheel,” Laois Gardaí said.

They advised people to enjoy driving but  “just don’t make your hobby everyone else’s problem”. Garda said they have the equipment to police the issue and advised drivers that  “consideration costs nothing”.
