Train delay hits Laois commuters after bridge strike

Portlaoise Train Station

Laois train commuters on their way to and from Dublin are facing delays following the suspension of services in Kildare.

Irish Rail has confirmed that the disruption has been caused due to a bridge hit at 5pm on Friday.

"Services have been suspended between Kildare and Monasterevin in both directions following a report that a vehicle has struck a railway bridge in the area," said Irish Rail in a post on X.

The company added that the line had to be temporarily closed to allow for the completion of an inspection of the damaged to the bridge with service to be resumed this evening.

Irish Rail did not give an eta on when services would recommence.
