A determined team of entrepreneurs has united to tackle a crippling €1 million debt in Mountmellick parish.

The massive sum amounted over a decade of construction work, such as the installation of central heating system and key refurbishment to St Joseph's parish church.

“Regrettably a major building project, that would have netted very significant monies (c.€750,000) for the parish, fell foul of the financial/construction crisis and never materialised,” PP Fr Michael Murphy said at the start of the campaign, which aims to pay the debt by 2025.

A Fashion Show Extravaganza event will take place on Friday, May 27 in Mountmellick Community Sports Complex at the Community School grounds.

To date, about 400 tickets have been sold and the venue hopes to raise €10,000.

The dedicated committee is helped by approximately 40 volunteers.

The committee is powered by six members- chairperson Liz Moore, Joint treasures Terry Mitchell and Loretta Sexton, joint secretaries Breda Grumley and Angela Donagher and PRO Winnie Feighery.
