Three men remanded in custody in Laois theft investigation

Three men have appeared in court in relation to thefts and related offences.

Thomas McInerney (39, Twomey Park, Mountmellick, William McInerney (36) Newline Close, Mountrath and Gerard McInerney (28) of Moanbaun, Mountrath appeared before Tullamore District Court on Wednesday morning.

All three appeared on charges of possession of stolen property, the unauthorised taking of a vehicle, and possession of articles at Cloncourse, Mountrath on Tuesday, July 12.

Garda evidence stated that five garda units had been involved in the arrest at Cloncourse, Portlaoise on Tuesday, July 12.

In the course of the operation two garda patrol cars had been rammed by a 4x4 jeep and four gardai ended up in hospital.

Superintendent Joe Pendergast objected to bail and sought to have the three men remanded in custody.

Judge Catherine Staines described the allegations as serious and refused bail applications for all three.

She remanded the men in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday, July 20 for directions from the DPP.
