As part of Heritage Week there are lots of great events on today and over the weekend.

Here are some of them, full details of all events nationwide are at


VINTAGE games continue at Heritage House Museum Friday and Saturday afternoons

Commemoration of the Battle of the Somme, French Church Portarlington, 8pm

Talk on Life in Laois in 1916, Abbeyleix Library 7pm

Lea Castle exhibition in Portarlington Library ongoing

Irish WIldlife Trust Laois-Offaly Branch Children’s Wildlife photo exhibition in Abbeyleix Library ongoing


Geology workshop for Kids, Durrow Library 11am

"1916: A Centenary on Screen" special evening of archive and new films, with live music accompaniment, Dunamaise Arts Centre, 8pm


Tour of the artwork of Emo Court with Artist Ray Murphy, Emo Court, 1pm

Abbey Leix Estate open to the public, 2pm - 5pm. Admission €5 in aid of local charities (run by the Lions Club), including free talk on the history and landscape of the estate with Kevin and Catherine Hutchinson at 3pm (meet in the courtyard)
