As part of this year’s Culture Night, there’s a night of traditional music planned in The Malthouse, Stradbally.

The Malthouse Stradbally Concert will feature New Road, with special guests Leonard Podolak and Cathy Jordan.

There will also be a craft fair before the evening’s musical entertainment begins.

This promises to be a very special performance by some of Ireland and Canada’s finest trad musicians, featuring Grammy award nominated Leonard Podolak (6 string banjo) Cathy Jordan (vocals), Leonard Barry (uilleann pipes, whistles), Rick Epping (harmonica, concertina, 5-string banjo, jaw harp, vocals), Andy Morrow (fiddle) and Shane McGowan (guitar).

They will play a folk-trad fusion, performing songs from the critically acclaimed album ‘Stone Walls & Street Lights.’

The concert will run from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, with the craft fair taking place before it at 5.30pm.

In Spink, there’s an evening of traditional Irish craic.

The Spink traditional evening will run from 7.30pm - 9.30pm.

There’s a chance to experience the work of a bestselling author as read by the author herself, when Anna McPartlin presents a special extract from her latest novel at Portlaoise Library.

Anna will read from her latest title ‘Somewhere Inside Of Happy’ at Portlaoise Library at 7pm.

Bagatelle fundraising concert in aid of the Doyle family in Portlaoise Heritage Hotel at 8.30pm this Saturday.

Mountmellick Baton Twirlers will have a party to celebrate their 10th anniversary party in the sports complex on Saturday, from 11.30am to 1.30pm.


Portarlington 1916 Commemoration Committee will plant a tree and erect a plaque at the old cemetery opposite Lea Castle at 3pm
