Laois County Council is moving to take responsiblity for roads, street lights and sewerage in ten estates one of including one of the worst unfinished estates left behind in the wake of the building boom.

The ten estates are: Augharna Court, Portlaoise; Corrig Glen, Portarlington; The Village, Ballylinan; Carriglea, Killenard; Cross of Newtown, Ballyroan; Knockamoe Lane, Abbeyleix; Radharc na Seibhne, Mountrath; Bruach na hAbhann, Magnaey; Ossory Court, Borris-in-Ossory; New Line Close, Mountrath.

One of these estates, Corrig Glen, was badly vandalised in the wake of the buidling boom. The five blocks remain only partly occupied. One block is derelict and boarded up.

However, the roads, lights, sewearage and water are up to standard.

Representations or objections may be made in writing to the Laois County Council in relation to the taking in charge of these estates by 4.30pm, Wednesday October 9.
