Staff at Oakdale Nursing Home with a happy Lotti
She may be their youngest resident, but Lottie the collie is settling in well at Oakdale Nursing Home in Portarlington.
There is a new resident of Oakdale Nursing Home in Portarlington, Laois, and she has already made lots of friends.
Lotti the collie cross was a stray dog rescued by Cara Rescue Dogs, a volunteer group in Laois.
She has since moved into the nursing home, and is 'living the dream' according to CARA.
"Lotti is a beautiful young collie type girl we recently had the absolute pleasure of rehoming to Oakdale Nursing Home where she now has the most loving adoring huge family of people to lavish her with affection every hour of every day And vice versa.
We are thrilled for all involved and Lotti as you can see is living the dream," the group posted on their facebook page on Tuesday October 11.
"Thanks to all Oakdale staff and Residents for giving her such an amazing home," Cara add.
Both residents and staff at the private nursing home are loving their new addition.
"Thank you Cara rescue for Lotti. She has brought a smile to the staff and residents alike. She greets us all in the morning and lies down to have her belly scratched, it is our pleasure to have her," a staff member said.
The public are loving the feelgood factor.
"This is a beautiful and amazing idea. Animals show such companionship and love, she will help comfort, console and care for the residents," said one commenter.
"It would be fantastic if all nursing homes did this the ladies and gentlemen would get so much joy," said another.
Owner Matt Moore says animals play a big part in the residents' lives.
"We have a donkey that comes in to visit, and one of the residents has her cat sleeping on her bed. The majority of our residents are from rural Ireland and would have had either farms or pets, they are delighted," he said.
