A thief made off with around €10,000 of electronic equipment and a large quantity of cash after breaking into a store in Laois Shopping Centre at the weekend by climbing through a skylight.

The lone male gained forced entry through the skylight of Trax, the music and phone store located in the shopping centre at James Fintan Lalor Avenue, at around 11.15pm on the night of Sunday, October 16.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed the man stole a large quantity of cash, as well as laptops, phone and tablets worth up to €10,000, and exited back through the skylight with the goods contained in a black bin bag.

The gardaí are seeking any witnesses who may have seen a male in the vicinity of the shopping centre from 11.15pm onwards, dressed in a sports jacket, runners and tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone who can help with the investigation should contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 05786 74100.
