A number of farms were targeted by thieves within the last week, with tools and equipment taken from outbuildings.

Both burglaries took place in the early hours of Tuesday, October 18, with a farmhouse shed in Ballickmoyer broken into between 1.30am and 3am and items including power tools and horse utensils stolen.

The lights of a vehicle were observed leaving the scene, and gardaí are appealing for information.

There was a similar break-in in Rossmore, Killeshin, around 1.30am to 2am that morning.

In this case, items including a power washer were stolen from a shed.

A garda spokesperson has said that the gardaí believe the burglaries could possibly be linked, given the nature of the crimes and the close proximity of the locations.

Anyone who may have seen anything, or who can help the garda investigation, should contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 05786 74100.
