Laois farmer Kenneth Graham has been placed among the 12 most environmentally efficient beef producers in the country.
Mr. Graham was a finalist in the beef category of the Origin Green Sustainable Beef and Dairy Producers Awards, held in Portlaoise last week.
The awards recognise the outstanding environmental performance of Bord Bia Quality Assurance Scheme members, particularly with regard to their carbon footprint, biodiversity and water management.

The Mountrath farmer manages a 40-hectare suckler unit, with 53 limousin-cross cows calving from January to March. His herd has an average calving interval of 364 days, producing 1.02 calves per cow per year.
The enterprise practices extended grazing, with all silage taken from surplus paddocks. Animals are regularly weighed, and sold as strong stores at 15 to 16 months.
