A 29-year-old woman charged with stealing two children’s dolls told the district court she forgot to pay for the goods as she was having an argument with her husband on the phone.
Inspector Eamon Curley gave evidence that Stacey Foley (29), Graigueswood, Freshford, Kilkenny, was seen by gardaí trying to hide two dolls under the seat of her car, outside Ken Black’s toy store in Portlaoise, on October 7 this year.
When the gardaí asked her for the receipt, she claimed she had bought the dolls elsewhere, but the items were actually from the Portlaoise toy store and had not been paid for.
CCTV footage showed her leaving the shop and passing all points of payment.
Foley had 12 previous convictions.
Defence, Ms Louise Troy said her client, a mother of four, was having an argument with her husband on the phone on the day and forgot to pay for the dolls.
She wished to apologise, said defence.
The matter was put back to December 8 for a community service report.
