A Portarlington man has been put on probation having been caught with heroin.
Liam Ryan, 16 Arlington Estate, Portarlington, was charged with drug possession, at St Brigid’s Square, Portarlington, on April 25 this year.
Detective Garda Derek Barnett gave evidence he detected the accused in a vehicle in a public laneway and informed him he was going to search him, at which point the accused produced a wrap of heroin he had hidden in his undergarments.
The accused had 34 previous convictions.
Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was well known to the gardaí, but he “isn’t the nuisance he was” and is now on a methadone programme.
