Court - 60-year-old woman stole face cream worth €426

Theft

A woman has been fined for stealing jars of face cream from a major pharmacy.

Before last week’s district court was Adriana Costea (60), 19 Seven Springs, Tullow Road, Carlow.

Inspector Oliver Baker gave evidence that on March 23 this year, the accused entered Boots Pharmacy and placed four jars of face cream, worth €426, into her bag and left the store without paying.

She had six previous convictions, all for theft.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick read out a letter to the court written by her client. In it, the accused said her father had been ill in Romania and she was trying to save up for the flight to go to him.

Ms Fitzpatrick said her client had €200 compensation to offer the court.

Judge Catherine Staines convicted and fined the accused €100.
