Winter ready

Laois TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, has urged people in Laois to ‘Be Winter Ready’ this year, and to take advantage of Government resources in doing so.

Speaking following the launch of the ‘Be Winter Ready’ information campaign, Minister Flanagan stated:

“In advance of the cold winter months, I urge people here in County Laois to check out www.winterready.ie where they’ll find practical advice on how best to prepare for the coming winter.

“The website contains useful information from a wide range of sources including Government Departments and Agencies, An Garda Síochána, the Health Service Executive, the Office of Public Works, Local Authorities and the transport providers. It contains specific advice for home owners, road users, schools, the farming community and the business sector. In addition, a synopsis of the information available has been compiled into a “Be Winter Ready” booklet, which can be downloaded from the website.

“It is really important we ensure that people all across Laois are prepared, stay safe and know where to find help if they need it.

He said he was pleased to report that Government has made significant progress on Flood Risk Management.

"The annual allocation for flood defence works will more than double in the next five years, from €45m to €100m, and in overall terms is similar to the investment made over the past twenty years," he said.
