Clear proof of the value of stolen cigarettes to thieves was demonstrated in Emo last week, when the front window of a shop was smashed and a cigarette machine stolen in the early hours of the morning.
The audacious burglary took place at around 3.15am on the morning of Thursday, November 10, when thieves smashed the front window of the shop and post office in the small Laois village.
As well as snatching the cigarette machine, the perpetrators also stole a quantity of cash, before fleeing the scene at speed in a gray coloured vehicle travelling in the direction of Mountmellick.
However, given the amount of small country roads branching off in the area the thieves could have taken a turnoff and headed for another town or village.
