A 44-year-old woman has been given the benefit of the probation act for stealing a bottle of vodka.
Clare Broughan (44), Demesne, Rathangan, was charged with theft at last week’s court.
Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that the accused entered Lidl, Portlaoise, on August 26 this year and stole a bottle of vodka worth €14.99.
She had six previous convictions, all for road traffic matters.
Defence, Ms Louise Troy said her client, a mother of three on disability benefit, had a number of medical concerns including anxiety and depression.
Ms Troy said Broughan was very remorseful and this was the last time she would ever engage in this sort of behaviour.
Judge Staines applied the probation act, section 1.1.
