The dusting of snow on the Slieve Bloom mountains in Offaly
Snow that fell in Laois and the midlands during the week is unlikely to be repeated but the cold snap is likely to continue through the weekend with frost at nights with ice in places.
Met Éireann's forcecast for Leinster said that after cold, frosty start with icy patches and local fog in places Saturday would be cold, bright and mostly dry with sunny spells this morning but it will become cloudier.
Saturday night is set to be cold and rather cloudy tonight in parts of the south and east of the province with some showery rain or sleet at times and temperatures of 0 to 2 degrees Celsius and breezy also with fresh northeast to northerly winds. Clearer periods elsewhere and lighter winds with lows of 0 or -1 and a sharp frost with some icy patches.
Sunday will be cold and bright with good sunshine developing. There will be moderate to fresh northwest winds dropping off light to moderate in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 5 to 7 degrees celsius.
The outlook is for a continuation of the cold weather but possibly becoming a bit less cold during mid week.
