After years of campaigning, the week has finally arrived that 155 boys and girls in Ballyroan village will unite to move into their purpose built co-ed primary school.
Sited on the old girls school, Scoil Eoin Phoil Naofa, with its adjoining sports hall and playing pitch, has plenty of room for expansion, says Cllr Mary Sweeney, a member of the board of management.
“It's a fantastic building, we are all excited to see it get to this stage, the staff and parents have been wonderfully patient,” she said.
The new principal is Niamh Kelly, who was principal of the boys school, Scoil Faolan Naofa, with Patricia Doyle as vice principal.
The the old schools closed for the last time last week.
The school opens next Tuesday December 13 and the girls school will be demolished over the Christmas holidays to make way for more groundworks.
To help equip the new school, Ballyroan Parents Association is holding a bagpack in Dunnes Stores Kyle Centre on Sunday December 18 from 12 to 7pm. Helpers are welcome, contact Aoife Connolly on 083 388 9212
