The Treacy family from Portarlington have recieved a Road Safety Ambassador Award for their bravery in campaigning for road safety.
Announcing the Award, the Road Safety Authority (RSSA) said the Treacys were “ a powerful voice for the devastation caused by drink-driving.”
Ciaran Treacy was four when a drunk driver crashed into the car he was travelling in with his mother in April 2014. He died i n the crash and Gillian Treacy received horrific injuries.
The RSA also gave Special Recognition awards to paramedics Christy Kelly and Gary Finlay, nurses Mary Joyce and Patrice O’Connell, Garda Sergeant Dave Lynam and Laois County Fire and Rescue Service for their work in the aftermath of the collision.
Emmet and Ciaran O’Mahony, a father and son who were the first to come upon the scene of the crash, also received an award.
The Treacy family are currently featuring in the RSA’s Crashed Lives advertising campaign which was launched recently.
