Timahoe man arrested for safety of others

A Timahoe man has been ordered to make a donation to the Garda Benevolent Fund after causing a drunken disturbance.

Inspector Maria Conway gave evidence that at 1.05am on October 2 this year, staff outside a local nightclub in Portlaoise were restraining Michael Ramsbottom (28), Stradbally Road, Timahoe, who was causing a disturbance.

He was extremely aggressive and being restrained by bouncers, and when he was asked to leave the scene he became more aggressive. The accused was also very intoxicated and was arrested for the safety of others present.

Defence, Mr Barry Fitzgerald said his client had been out on a weekend night and had way too much to drink, getting intoxicated.

Said Judge Catherine Staines to the accused: “Do you think drink is an excuse for this kind of behaviour? Who poured the drink into you? You know you can’t drink.”

He was directed to pay €500 to the Garda Benevolent Fund and the matter was adjourned to November 16.
