Portlaoise man charged with stealing phone from takeaway

A Portlaoise man has pleaded not guilty to stealing a phone in a local fast-food outlet.

At last week’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court was Christopher O’Driscoll (49), Birchgrove, Portlaoise, charged with theft.

Sgt JJ Kirby gave evidence that on December 4, 2016, at Supermacs, Portlaoise, a mobile phone was left behind by someone in the restaurant.

The accused was sitting next to it and an employee brought the phone behind the counter, but the accused allegedly went up and said the phone was his.

Sgt Kirby said the accused was identified from CCTV footage.

Defence, solicitor Mr Aonghus McCarthy said his client was pleading not guilty to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to February 13 next for hearing.
