An Abbeyleix woman has been charged with stealing money from the parents association of the local primary school.

At yesterday’s (Thursday, May 10) sitting of Portlaoise District Court, Bernadette Moran (40), Lower Boley, Abbeyleix, was charged with three counts of theft:

It is alleged that between October 1, 2015, and September 1, 2016, she stole €2,228 in cash, coinage and cheques, from the treasurer of the Scoil Mhuire Parents Association.

Between October 1, 2014, and September 30, 2015, it is alleged she stole €1,075 from the same injured party.

And between September 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016, it is alleged she stole €1,300 from the same.

The matter was put back to May 24, for a guilty plea to be entered, or a hearing date to be fixed.
