Portlaoise Courthouse meeting annoys Laois councillors

A Portlaoise man has been charged in connection with a robbery in which a knife was produced.

At yesterday's (Thursday, November 8) sitting of the district court, Robert Dwane (24), with listed addresses at Mountain View and Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise, was charged with two counts of robbery, at Millbrook, Portlaoise, on November 3 last.

It is alleged he stole a Samsung Galaxy phone worth €500 and cash to the value of €140.

Garda evidence said that when the accused was charged and cautioned he made no reply.

There are no DPP directions in the case.

Detective Garda JP O’Brien said the State was objecting to bail, but solicitor, Mr Barry Fitzgerald said there was no application for bail.

The accused was remanded in custody to Cloverhill District Court on November 15 next, for DPP directions.
