Ballinakill woman assaulted A&E nurse

A Ballinakill woman has pleaded guilty before Portlaoise Circuit Court to punching a nurse at the Midlands Hospital.

Carrie Orr of 6 Baunmore, Ballinakill, was charged with assault causing harm, at the A&E department on March 12, 2018.

When the case came before Portlaoise District Court last October, Sgt JJ Kirby gave evidence that it is alleged that without provocation the accused raised her right fist and punched a nurse to the jaw.

A report given to Judge Catherine Staines indicated the injured party needed stitches. Sgt Kirby said that a full medical report on the injured party was still awaited.

The case was then sent forward to be dealt with in the circuit court.

At the recent sitting of Portlaoise Circuit Court, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to June 19 next, for a probation report and a victim impact statement.
