Laois Offaly Gardai arrest driver as car using space saver tyre detected at 174kph

A driver detected speeding at 174 kmh while using a space saver tyre was arrested by Laois Offaly Gardai.
The motorist was caught speeding at 174kph in a 100 kmh zone. Space saver tyres, which are generally fitted for temporary use while a puncture is being repaired, are not recommended to be used at speeds above 80kmh.
“Offaly Roads Policing Unit detected a car speeding. 174km per hr in a 100 zone. Car also fitted with a space saver tyre . Driver arrested. Charged with dangerous driving,” Gardai said.
Another motorists who was detected by Offaly Roads Policing Unit travelling at 145 kmh was issued with a ticket.
