Laois County Council has given the goahead to local successful GAA and athletics clubs to proceed with the improvement of their facilities.
The local authority has granted conditional planning permission to St Joseph’s GAA to erect lighting and associated site work around the walking track at Tony Byrne Park, Kellyville, Ballintubbert.
The club, which won the 2023 Laois GAA County Senior Football Championship, applied earlier in 2024 to erect 19 metro street lights along the walking track route, some of which runs along the sidelines of the main playing pitch.
The council signed off on the application on August 16.
Meanwhile, a decision has also been reached on an application made by Emo Rath Athletics Club which sought permission to install tartan sprint lanes, long jump pit and shot putt throwing circle at the Community Field in Emo.
The new facilities will be installed along the perimeter of the grass soccer pitch that is located near the national school and clubhouse.
Laois County Council reached a decision on the Emo proposal on August 15 when conditional planing permission was granted.
