A Laois Gaelic football player who is listed in the LGFA Hall of Fame, is to receive a Laois County Council Civic Reception to mark her sporting achievements.
Laois County Council intends to set a date for a civic reception for Laois Sport legend Sue Ramsbottom, as proposed by Cllr Paschal McEvoy at the April council meeting.
"Sue doesn't need any introduction, she has given her lifetime to football. I acknowledge Timahoe Ladies team and Rachel Kelly who approached me to ask the council to give her this reception," he said.
There is a possibly unique angle to the honour for the Irish Army Commandant who lives in Strasbourg with her family, where she is a member of an EU Battlegroup and has established an underage team, Strasbourg Gaels.

"We gave a previous civic reception for the Timahoe NS Young Scientist winners, which included one of her daughters. Now her mother is getting one, that's pretty unique," Cllr McEvoy said.
The proposal was seconded by Cllr Paddy Buggy.
Sue Ramsbottom won a coveted TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship medal with the O’Moore County in 2001 – and she’s also the proud recipient of seven TG4 All-Star awards (1988, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997).

After six previous All-Ireland Senior Final disappointments, Laois finally reached the promised land with victory over Mayo in the 2001 Final. Sue played a key role in that game.
