40 players compete in doubles competition

Abbeyleix Tennis Club hosted another successful doubles competition kindly sponsored by Shaws, Portlaoise.

Abbeyleix Tennis Club hosted another successful doubles competition kindly sponsored by Shaws, Portlaoise.

Over 40 players entered into four different sections. The competition ran over May/June and some competitive tennis was enjoyed by all.

The finals night took place on Tuesday, June 10 with and was a great success for all involved.

In the A mens, David Brophy and Alain Dellenback got the better of Malcolm McDonald and Conor Phelan in two sets. In the B mens Joseph Casey and Henry Hutchinson proved too strong for Tim Mounsey and Brendan Crawford.

In the ladies A section, Claire Igoe and Fiona Bonham got the better of Kathleen Burnell and Mary Daly in two sets and in the B ladies section Gemma Ogilvie and Breda Keating saw off Pat Fogarty and Gillian Rea. Refreshments were served on the night and the great weather added to the atmosphere and made it a very enjoyable night for all.

Tennis for adult beginners takes place every Wednesday night from 7.30-9.30. If you are thinking of joining the club you are welcome to come down on Wednesdays and sample the facilities. Professional coaching will be arranged in the coming weeks.

Tennis for teenagers continues every Friday night from 7.30-9.30. Professional coaching will also be arranged in the coming weeks.

The Saturday morning programme for kids is ongoing at the moment. If you wish to enrol your child you can come down on Saturday mornings at 11 or if you would like more information you can contact us via Facebook or on the club phone 086-6684049.
