Great competition at Laois Senior Scór Finals

Great competition at Laois Senior Scór Finals

Mountrath GAA hosted the Laois Senior Scór final in Mountrath Community School on Friday.

There was a good attendance on the night for the various acts and full credit goes to Mountrath GAA for their hosting skills and their hospitality and also to Tommy Ferns for looking after the sound.

There were four clubs in the Table Quiz section, Camross, Castletown, Courtwood and Annanough. The eventual winners were Courtwood just nudging out Camross by one point, and they now go on to represent Laois in the All Ireland in April.

Next up was Solo Singing with Pauric Dunne from Courtwood up first giving a wonderful rendition of The Parting Glass. Edmund Dunne from Castletown was next singing Mary from Dungloe whilst the singing caretaker Seamus Moloughney represented Ballacolla and sang 4 Green Fields. Edmund Dunne was deemed the winner in this category.

In the recitation section, Margaret Conway from Clonaslee captivated the audience with her rendition of The Ballad of John Williams. Courtwood put up a great & humorous Leiríu sketch, titled the Photographer! This sketch was greatly enjoyed by the audience and full credit goes to P J Kelly, Eddie Fitzgerald and Siobhan Byron McEvoy for performing such an enjoyable piece.

In the Ballad Group section Castletown were represented by Tina, Eimer and Ciara Cuddy, Edmund Dunne and Bridget Hiney. They entertained the audience with The Leaving of Nancy & Dollymount Strand. Courtwood's ballad group consisted of Pauric & Aileen Dunne and Mairead McCormack and they sang Red is the Rose & Past the Point of Rescue. Castletown GAA were victorious in this section.

Unfortunately, there were no competitors in either the Instrumental or Dancing Groups.

MC for the night was the evergreen Míchaél Martin. Laois Scór Chairperson Jody Conway thanked all for attending, with a special thanks going to Mountrath GAA for all their help, to the adjudicator and to Seamus Moloughney for ensuring everything went so smoothly on the night.

Laois Scor would like to wish Castletown GAA, Courtwood GAA and Clonaslee GAA the very best in the Leinster Semi Final in Birr this coming Saturday evening and also to Courtwood GAA in the All Ireland table quiz.
