Over fifty clubs and community groups in Laois benefit from €1m in Sports Capital Funding

Minister Shane Ross announces sports capital grants.

The Sports Capital Grants for Laois have been announced, with over fifty clubs from around the county benefiting from the scheme.

A little over €1m has been divided up amongst the various clubs and groups which have been successful in securing funding, with Rathdowney GAA Club receiving the highest individual sum - €86,000 - to help with the extensive works being carried out by the club in redeveloping their pitch.

A number of other GAA clubs have received significant funding, notably Ballyroan Abbey GAA (€73,500), Camross GAA (€69,500) and Killeshin GAA (€78,000). The Kildare and Leighlin Diocesan Trust also received a sizeable sum, €67,000, to be spent on St Mary's Hall.

The full list of recipients is as follows:

Abbey Bowls - Purchase of Indoor Bowls Equipment (€2,000).

Arles-Killeen GAA - Ground upgrade and refurbishment works (€11,000).

Ballinakill GAA - Covered Ball Wall enclosure & Pitch enclosure ( €47,727).

Ballypickas GAA - Refurbishment of Dressing Rooms, Showers and Toilets (€34,500).

Ballyroan Abbey GAA - Drain/level pitch, Walking track, New showers (€73,500).

Borris in Ossory GAA - Floodlighting at Borris in Ossory GAA grounds (€52,000).

Camross Community Hall - Sports field development and drainage (€32,000).

Camross GAA - Camross GAA Club AstroTurf, Gym & Pitch Lights (€69,500).

Castletown Community Sports Field Development Fund (€31,000).

Castletown GAA - Non Personal Sports Equipment (€7,000).

Castletown Primary School - Sports Equipment for School/Community use (€4,500).

Clonaslee St Manman's GAA - Construction of Clubhouse (€27,000).

Clonin Sportsfield Committee - Astro Turf and Fencing for Ball Wall area (€13,000).

Clough-Ballacolla GAA - Pitch Development (€8,000).

Colt GAA - Fencing, Walking Track, Purchase of mower (€29,000).

Combat Kick Boxing Laois - Sports Equipment (€2,000).

Crettyard GAA - Repair Main Pitch, Purchase Mower (€10,000).

Crettyard United Soccer Club - Crettyard United AFC (€11,500).

The Heath GAA - Security Fencing Heath GAA (€12,000).

Kilcavan GAA - Construction of a multi-purpose fitness room (€32,000).

Kildare & Leighlin Diocesan Trust - St Mary’s Sports Hall (€67,000).

Killeen Community Hall - Defibrillator/Sport Markings (€1,100).

Killeshin AFC - Construction of dormer Clubhouse and Dressing rooms (€78,000).

Laochra Laoise Special Olympics Sports Club - Provide high quality, safe, appropriate equipment (€1,500).

Laois County Council - Sports Equipment (€4,500).

Laois Hunt Pony Club - Equipment for 3 Pony Club Equestrian Disciplines (€11,000).

Laois Kayak and Canoe Club - Renovation of Club House (€17,000).

Laois Sports Partnership Ltd - Increase participation in Sport and PA (€2,000).

Lions AFC - Drainage of grass playing pitch and training pitch (€20,500).

Mountmellick & District Game Preservation Association & Gun Club - Replacement of old Manual Clay pigeon (€2,500).

Mountmellick Athletic Club - New Long Jump & Equipment (€10,000).

Mountmellick Community Sports Complex Ltd - Oscar Sports Capital Grant 2017 (€2,000).

Mountmellick GAA - Mountmellick Pitch Maintenance and Grass Cutting (€3,500).

Mountmellick Sarsfields LFC - Equipment for Maintenance/Training (€4,500).

Mountrath Development Association - Refurbishment of Tennis Courts (€12,500).

Mountrath Golf Club - Purchase of Pedestrian Greens Aerator (€9,500).

O’Dempsey’s GAA - A dedicated juvenile pitch for our club and others (€36,500).

Portarlington Golf Club - Greens mower and Clubhouse Kitchen Renovation (€10,000).

Portarlington Leisure Centre - Outdoor sports (€6,500).

Portlaoise Active Retirement - Purchase of Sports Equipment (€1,000).

Portlaoise Ladies GAA - Portlaoise Ladies GFC Equipment (€3,000).

Portlaoise Panthers Basketball Club (€4,000).

Portlaoise RFC - Gym Toilets and Changing Rooms (€39,000).

Portlaoise Soccer Club - Lawnmower and refurbish showers (€7,000).

Rathdowney GAA - Pitch Development (€86,000).

Rosenallis AFC - New Equipment For Rosenallis AFC (€17,000).

Spink Community Development Association Ltd - Multi Use Games Area at Spink Community Field (€26,500).

St Aengus FC - Perimemer fence, Ball stops, Mower, surround (€14,500).

St Conleths LGFC - To purchase football training equipment (€1,500).

St Fintans GAA Club Mountrath - Artificial Playing Surface Development (€45,000).

The Rock GAA Club - Refurbishment of the clubhouse and grounds (€15,500).
