A new initiative to introduce children to the fundamentals of golf is beginning in Portlaoise this week.
The Junior Golf Academy Ireland will run classes across three age grades, catering for children from 2 to 10 years of age. The classes are open to both boys and girls, with groups split up in the following categories - 2-4 years old, 5-7 years old, and 8-10 years old.
Classes for the youngest age groups are 30 minutes long and will focus on developing hand-eye co-ordination, spatial awareness and motor skills.
Classes for the the other two age grades will be 45 minutes long, with the fundamentals of golf gradually being introduced as through the age groups.
The classes run over seven weeks, and prices start at €70 for the 2-4 years age group, and €80 for the two older groups. They begin this Friday, March 1st, at the following times - 2-4 years (4pm-4.30pm), 5-7 years (4.30pm-5.15pm), 8-10 years (5.15pm-6pm).
The classes will be held in the Rice Nagle Sports Complex on the Borris Road in Portlaoise, on the shared campus of the Portlaoise CBS and Scoil Chríost Rí secondary schools.
