Laois Marlins continue to impress on the provincial stage as six swimmers won medals at the Leinster Schools Swimming Finals held at Tallaght.
Ryan Flynn, who attends Barnashrone NS, won gold in Freestyle and bronze in Backstroke. Also attending Barnashrone NS is Tyler Dolan who won silver in Breaststroke. Zara McMahon, from Emo NS, won bronze in two events- the Backstroke and the Breaststroke.
Jordan Overton, The Rock NS, also had a double win taking silver in both the Freestyle and the Butterfly.St Pauls Portlaoise student Matthew Doyle also took silver in the Breaststroke, and his classmate Thomas Martin took bronze in the Butterfly.
Meanwhile in countrywide galas, Laois Marlins members have been recording tremendous successes.Eleven year old Ryan Flynn won an incredible haul of five medals at the Kilkenny Gala held at the Watershed Leisure Centre. Ryan, who has been with Laois Marlins for two years now, took gold in 50M Free and 50M Fly, and silver in three events- 50M Breaststroke, 50M Backstroke and 100M Medley. The talented swimmer swims six days a week.
Eight years old Toni Dolan took gold in in the 50M Frontcrawl and silver in the 50M Butterfly at the recent Trojan Gala in Dublin. Toni is relatively new to the Portlaoise based club, having joined at the beginning of this year. She has been swimming since the age of 4.
Twelve year old Jordan Overton won bronze in the 50M Butterfly at the Trojan Gala. He has been with The Marlins since May 2011. He swims at least four times a week. He also plays gaelic football with The Rock and he enjoys Irish dancing.
At the recent Aer Lingus Gala the Laois Marlins collected three medals, with Mick Carroll taking silver in 100M Breaststroke and bronze in 200M IM, while Thomas Martin got bronze in 200M Butterfly.
