Busy time for Laois mountain bikers

Unlaoised MTB, a Laois mountain biking club, have been enjoying a busy start to the year, with members competing all around the country since mid February.

Unlaoised MTB, a Laois mountain biking club, have been enjoying a busy start to the year, with members competing all around the country since mid February.

The first outing for the club was on February 19 in Ballinastoe, Wicklow, and taking part on the day were Sean Culleton, Keith Finn, Jono Curtin, Joleene Cahill and Tommie Kealy. After a tough day’s racing, Tommie Kealy came home with first place in the U-14 category.

On March 4 some members entered the biking blitz in Ballyhoura, Limerick, and again Tommie Kealy was in fine form as he grabbed a silver medal, coming in second in the U-14.

Two weeks later was the start of the Leinster League, which took place in Glendalough Estate, Wicklow. Taking part on the day was Tommy Kealy (U-14), Keith Finn (Senior 4), Martin Kealy (Senior 3), Sean Culleton (Senior 3), Joe Bregin (Senior 3) and chairman of the club Frankie Taylor (Senior 3). On the day Taylor finished in the top 15 out of a field of 64, and Joleene Cahill came home with third in the Senior 3 womens,

March 25 was the second round of the Leinster league which took place in Bunclody, Wexford, and it was another great day for the club, coming home with three medals. Tommy Kealy came third U-14, Chris Maguire came third in Senior 4 and Joleene Cahill came third in Senior 4 Womens. Also taking part on the day were Martin Kealy (Senior 3), Keith Finn (Senior 4), Fearghal Carroll (Senior 4). Feargal took a few hard falls on the day but still manage to complete the race.
