The U-18 basketball team travelled to Kilkenny on Wednesday night to play Waterford Vikings.
The lads were after coming off a great performance against Naas and were hoping to continue their great run of form.
The team started slowly but got off the mark with good inside play from Conor O’Donovan and Tiernan Dempsey leading to the first score of the game. Waterford hit back with scores from Dale Kavanagh to send the teams in level to end the first quarter.
The second was a dogged quarter with neither team able to take the advantage but Waterford capitalised on their chances. Portlaoise were given a blow with Brendan Carroll forced off through injury.
The team continued with their fight back with excellent shooting from Shane Maughan.
The fourth quarter was again proving to be hard to call but some questionable decisions gave Waterford the lead which they held on to for the end of the game with a final score of 37-32.
