The hardy souls putting their reputations on the line this SAturday night for the ‘Battle of Maryborough’ fundraiser have learnt their opponents after the pairings were revealed during the week.

There are ten fights taking place on the night between members of the Portlaoise GAA club and Portlaoise RFC, with Laois senior footballer Conor Boyle set to take on Killian O’Connor in one of the bouts.

There will also be exhibition fights involved Portlaoise fighters Michael O’Reilly and Michael Nevin, both All-Ireland champions, but the highlight of the evening is set to be a display by multiple world champion Katie Taylor, who will be gunning for gold at this summer’s Olympics in London.

The bout featuring Katie Taylor and an international opponent is sure to prove a huge draw as it will be her last fight in Ireland before the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

It is a strictly Over 18s event and tickets priced at €20 are on sale from Dunamaise Arts Centre and on line at www.dunamaise.ie.

The full list of fight pairings involving GAA and Rugby Club members is as follows:

Tommy Mulligan v Lorcan Byrne

Scott Lawless v Colin Delaney

Fintan Walsh v Richie Reid

Greg Dunne v Mick Burke

David Leonard v Niall Fitzpatrick
