Portlaoise Panthers U-12 girls had another great win last week with a home game on Monday against Tipp Talons in the Kilkenny League in St Marys Hall.
Ellen Garvey opened up the score for Portlaoise which settled the nerves for the home team. Ciara Byrne was confident on the court setting up offensive plays opening herself up for strong drives to the board.
Ellenor Healy played tough defensive and kept the pressure on at all times. Jasmine Burke was a threat as always under the boards and made an easy basket from the rebounds. Grainne O’Reilly made it very hard for the opposition with her tough defence, her hard work paid off as it resulted in many fast break layups for her.
The girls worked just as hard in the second quarter with Shauna Dooley immediately adding her name to the score sheet followed swiftly by Sarah Fleming. Caoimhe Sweeney and Sinead Brady worked extremely hard on defence and got their hands to every ball that tried pass them. Rebecca Reddin caught great rebounds on defence and assisted in fast breaks up the court finished effortlessly by Dooley.
The second half of the game seen a change of players and Rachel Glynn wasted no time driving to the board and netting her basket adding to the ever expanding score. Talons fought hard and with every opportunity they got they went to the boards but unfortunately they were no match for the home team with Ella Byrne and Jessie Preston under the baskets ready for every rebound.
Grainne O’Reilly gave great passes inside the key on offence and Ellen Garvey again added to the score. O’Reilly made good drives and netted consecutive baskets for her team.
This was another great win for Portlaoise with the last quarter finishing the game as it started. Reddin battled hard and made two good baskets and the defence for the home side was extremely strong till the very end.
