The 2013 Laois Pool League semi finals got underway last Friday when defending champions The Horseshoe from Abbeyleix took on Ryan’s Bar of Portlaoise in their first leg of their encounter.
The last time these two teams met was in the 2012 final with The Horseshoe taking home the title on that night.
Ryan’s however are in a good position to gain revenge went away on the night with a slight 8-7 lead having won the first session on the night 4-1 but The Horseshoe did well to climb back and stay well in the match going into the second leg.
In the other semi final Gogarty’s were due to take on The Phoenix Inn on Sunday last. It is Gogarty’s Bar first run in this league and have done really well so far topping their respective group so whatever way it goes, one of these teams will be making their first ever appearance in a league final. Both will know the importance of this fixture and will be equally eager to advance to the final.
The Shield semi finals see Lethean’s Bar leading Finlay’s Bar 8-7 after the first leg. Both these teams are also new entrants this year and have been having a good run with both hoping to reach the final of the Shield Event for the first time. Finlay’s Bar had defeated defending shield champs Nappers B in the quarter finals so will be full of confidence going into the second leg.
The Final Furlong of Ballybrittas take on Nappers A with the first leg having been played last Saturday. The furlong lost to Gogartys bar in the quarters of the League while Nappers lost to Ryan’s Bar. The final quarter to be played is Lennons A team from Durrow who lost in the Cup quarters to The Horseshoe Inn narrowly 16-14.
They face The Gatehouse of Emo who lost out to the Phoenix Inn in the Cup. All up to date results can be seen on our facebook page, just search for ‘Laois Pool Association’
