Laois County Council has grit free to collect at various depots
As Laois people hunker down today to prepare for a possible Status Red snowstorm, Laois County Council has listed its depots where people will be able to collect free salt and grit.
"Salt and grit can be collected from depots once the snow hits. We will be advising the public that small quantities of the salt is all that is required to clear your drives and footpaths," a council spokesperson has said this morning.
The grit is for farmers.
"We have some larger deposits of grit which will be available to farmers for spreading on roads," the council state.

The salt and grit will be available to collect at the following council depots;
Portlaoise (Clonminam) and depots in Abbeyleix, Mountmellick, Borris-in- Ossory,
Donaghmore, Portarlington, Stradbally, Graiguecullen and Maidenhead.
