Snow weather warning as Storm Freya hits polar winds

Met Éireann has issued a snow ice weather warning as Storm Frey meets polar cold weather over Ireland.

The Status Yellow alert is in place for for Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon.

The forecaster says heavy rain will turn to sleet and snow on Sunday. It says much of the snow will be above 200 metres with just a local dusting of snow at lower levels. Met Éireann says wet and slushy roads are likely to become icy in places overnight as temperatures drop below freezing.

The warning is valid until 8am on Monday, March 4

A Status yellow warning is already in place until 6pm Sunday.
