Urgency needed on Laois roads as 'another accident waiting to happen' says councillor

A number of roads in Laois need to be completed ‘as a matter of urgency’ according to a county councillor.

Cllr James Kelly tabled a notice of motion at a recent council meeting asking that Laois County Council carry out works at Canon Delaney Bridge, Rushin Road, Mountrath and Trumera Cross as soon as possible.

He said funding had already been secured for the work and that it needed to happen very quickly.

Details on the works for Trumera Cross are expected in the coming weeks, €3,000 has been allocated to carry out road works at the location with additional funds from a safety scheme.

Cllr Kelly said that there is a GAA pitch and school near Delaney Bridge and said it is ‘another accident waiting to happen’.

Senior Executive Engineer at Laois County Council, Mr Paul McLoughlin, said that the local authority have commenced preparatory works on both of these road project with a view of completing them as part of the 2018 programme.
