Laois County Council has been given an extra €73,000 this year in government cash for grants to the public who need their homes adapted to suit their age or ability.
The council has a total of €1.11 million for 2018 to award in grants. So far this year it has approved €429,530.
The increase was welcomed by Cllr James Kelly at the May meeting of Laois County Council.
“The €1.1 million means an awful lot to those people and families. I congratulate the housing department for speeding up processing grant applications,” he said.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly agreed.
“I welcome the money for disabled and older people, it will be money well spent. I thank the housing staff who look after this, it makes people’s lives a little bit easier,” he said.
