Laois town takes next steps to make sports centre a reality

New Stradbally community development group in Laois plans bright future

Work is underway in Stradbally to develop a facility to serve as a community and sports hub.

Stradbally Community Development Association is carrying out a feasibility study with a view to developing a Community and Sports Centre.

The committee is keen to hear from landowners in the area who are interested in working with them to realise this key piece of community infrastructure.

The committee needs between three to four acres to host all the facilities that it would like to develop.

The wider community in Stradbally held a meeting in October Sand listed shortcomings that must be addressed to allow their town to grow and thrive, to retain its young population, and to keep businesses and shops open.

A crowd of over 70 residents and representatives of clubs and groups, filled St Colman's National School hall for a workshop for the meeting. It was organised by the recently formed Stradbally Community Development Association.

The association is drawing up a five-year plan for Stradbally's development that will help to attract future grants.

Top of the requirement from locals is for a community hall large enough to cater for the many sports clubs in the area.

Looking for land is the next move in making this community's needs a reality.
